Pump and Abrasion Technologies (PAT) has introduced a new range of slurry pumps. The Curve range ensures decreased energy consumption throughout the product life cycle, and offers TOC reduction, longer wear life, increased efficiency and improved safety for personnel during installation and maintenance.

CURVE S Range BROCHURE1 1The design of the slurry pumps in the range took three years, with PAT’s design and engineering team re-evaluating the traditional internal hydraulic layouts found in most slurry pumps. Creating a new design which was applied to the specific geometric size and the exact profiles of hydraulic passage through the pump, the team produced a range of pumps in which low energy consumption was prioritised.

“When plotting the specific geometric size against total lifecycle cost there is a point where capital and operational costs achieve a combined optimum. Every model in the Curve range is sized to hit this optimum and deliver the lowest ownership cost to the end-user,” explains Jaco Buitendag, Managing Director of PAT.

“One of our main goals in developing the Curve was to offer customers tailored solutions. Every aspect of the Curve’s design is based on feedback from clients across the continent and so we feel that this is currently the only pump on the market to address every one of their operational needs.”

He adds that the range was designed in order to minimise the adoption cost of the new technology. As a result, the Curve pumps can be retrofitted to legacy pumping systems with minimal changes to piping required. Existing equipment with outdated technology can be upgraded without the need to change the base or mechanical-end, depending on the specific model.

“Slurry pumps and slurry pump maintenance account for a large portion of any engineer's budget. PAT has always been looking for ways to assist our clients in driving down these costs through improved pump selection strategies, improved material composition of wear components, client inventory cost reduction and innovative pricing strategies. The Curve boasts an optimised flow profile to reduce wear, best-in-class integral tapered impeller and liner faces that virtually eliminate re-circulation in certain applications, extending wear life dramatically, and the first fully profiled primary vanes in all material options,” Buitendag says.

“With the rate of technological advancements happening in the mining industry, we felt that a new slurry pumping product was desperately needed in the market. We proceeded to allocate a significant portion of our development resources to collecting customer feedback and packaged this into what we feel represents the new generation in slurry pumps. We are extremely proud of the product that we have been able to bring to the market. We now have a product that offers a reduction in downtime by up to 80%, a 40-60% reduction in total ownership costs and – thanks to our strategic distribution – shorter delivery lead time.”
