International power tools, accessories, and measuring tools brand Bosch has joined a number of South African companies in sponsoring equipment for an initiative to conduct research into the Snow Petrel and the near-threatened Emperor Penguin in Antarctica. In addition to Bosch, sponsors include Western Digital, NSSL Global, Canon and GoPro.
Craig Blanckenberg, founder of Solutec, an IT solutions provider based in Cape Town, kick-started the initiative. He travelled to Antarctica on board the SA Agulhas II, which departed in November last year to work alongside a team of scientists investigating the status biology and ecology of these bird species. This is his second trip to Antarctica, having sailed originally in 1992 on the SA Agulhas I to the SANAE base while working for Sea Fisheries. During his latest trip, Blanckenberg is travelling to various international bases to conduct research.
“We are an environmentally-aware and socially-responsible company, and therefore this sponsorship represents an important contribution on the part of Bosch to the sustainability of the planet and its future generations,” says Sebastian Johannes, Bosch Measuring Tools Brand Manager in South Africa.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to all of these companies for supporting small business in South Africa, in addition to the invaluable research being carried out on the frozen continent,” Blanckenberg says.
