Cortec Corporation has announced its latest advancement in environmentally safe corrosion protection. Called BioPouch, this new, revolutionary “green” Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor is aimed at the protection of metal parts in a non-ventilating space.

Corrosion protection in non ventilating spacesBioPouch is powered by the newest NANO VpCI technology, primarily made from agricultural by-products. NANO-VpCI's emit from the pouch and saturate the enclosure via diffusion, filling all void spaces and recessed areas with protective vapor molecules.

Molecules from BioPouch are attracted to and adsorb on to metallic surfaces, resulting in the formation of a nano protective barrier layer. Studies have shown the VpCI molecules to provide excellent protection in the presence of corrosive species such as chlorides, moisture, sulfides, and so on, and displace them at the metal surface. Vapour phase inhibiting action protects inaccessible and recessed surfaces.

BioPouch provides an efficient and easy method of protecting metals within an enclosed space. In case a nano protective layer is disturbed by moisture or the opening of an enclosed space, the layer is replenished by continuous vapour re-deposition. The Nano-VpCI does not destroy the natural balance of the environment, and is functionally superior to hazardous oil-derived products.

BioPouch is very effective in polluted and humid surroundings. It is also quick and super easy to use: There is no need for special equipment for application, just the determination of the number of pouches required per unit space. No spraying, wiping or dipping is required.

Each BioPouch protects up to 1m3 of enclosed space. It is ideally suited for the protection of tubular structures, pipes, and vessels; the internal surfaces of compressors, turbines, engines, tanks, boilers, and heat exchangers; and steam condensate lines, closed circuit heating, and cooling systems. It can also be used for the corrosion protection of equipment after hydrostatic testing, parts, components, and completed assemblies during shipping and storage, and voids, cavities, and tanks, as well as double bottom storage tank floors.

BioPouch is tested according to NACE TM0208-2008 and conforms to RoHS guidelines.
