Corrosion protection specialist Cortec has introduced the CorroLogic VpCI Filler, a gel filler product for pipeline casings and other tubular void spaces. CorroLogic can replace or supplement traditional corrosion protection options, which rely on coatings and cathodic protection (CP).

Gel filler for pipeline corrosion protection1CorroLogic VpCI Filler was designed at the request of a North American pipeline corrosion engineering group looking for a product that would protect annular void spaces between pipelines and their casings. Cortec Corporation researched and developed this two part VpCI Filler product. When mixed and pumped into a structural void space, the product turns into a gel that fills and protects the space from corrosion using Cortec’s Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibiting Technology. The filler also provides resistance to bacterial corrosion and prevents infiltration of air and water.

Gel filler for pipeline corrosion protection2CorroLogic VpCI Filler is made of biodegradable materials and is non-toxic, non-flammable, and nitrite- and phosphate-free. CorroLogic VpCI Filler complies with NACE Standard SP0208-2008, from Classes of Rust Preventatives referenced in Mothballing Manual, and meets requirements of NACE SP0200-2014 Standard Practice: Steel Cased Pipeline Practices.

This corrosion protector has controllable viscosity and setup time, with little or no surface preparation required. It migrates under disbonded coatings and protects inaccessible and recessed surfaces. The VpCI protection self-replenishes if a space is unexpectedly subjected to moisture or outside air infiltration. CorroLogic VpCI Filler is compatible with Cathodic Protection and continues working in its absence. It can be removed by washing the product off the metal surface.
