During oil and gas exploitation in oil fields, pipelines and storage tanks often crack, contaminating the soil as a result. Soil pollution with various oils or diesel fuel also happens during exploration and drilling of new wells. Similarly, when replacing underground reservoirs at petrol stations, it is necessary to remove the soil around the reservoir as it is contaminated with gasoline and diesel fuels.

bioremediation image 1Croatian company CorteCros, a member of the Cortec Corporation Group, provides environmentally safe bioremediation solutions for these issues with Bionetix products. BIOSURF and BCP 35S are two products especially formulated by Bionetix for bioremediation of soil contaminated by petroleum hydrocarbons and related wastes.

BIOSURF is a biosurfactant treatment designed to help clean up oil spills naturally. It offers high dispersing power and acts as a strong biostimulant to promote hydrocarbon degradation. Providing an alternative to synthetic surfactants and dispersants commonly used to disperse oil slicks, BIOSURF is a non-toxic biosurfactant extracted from plants and fortified with micronutrients that speed up natural biodegradation. Bioremediation with BIOSURF and BCP 35S will deep clean soils, eliminate unsightly areas, reduce pollution liability, and lower disposal costs.

INA needed to remove all contaminated soil from its oil and gas fields, as well as its gas stations. The project involved soil bioremediation using Bionetix products. The oil company built a landfill for the treatment of contaminated soil, as between 3000 and 5000 tons of soil need to be decontaminated using the bioremediation process per year.

Contaminated soil is collected from a number of oil fields and transported to the landfill. It then passes extensive laboratory testing. Contaminated soil is sprayed with a fresh water/BCP35S/BIOSURF mixture, with the process repeated every 10 days. After three to five months, depending on the type of pollution (crude oil, gasoline, diesel), the soil is returned to the site completely unpolluted.
