Construction World August 2018ON THE COVER: On 26 July 2018 Barloworld Equipment officially launched the Next Generation of Cat 20-ton excavators that do exactly what customers want. They perform better at lower cost, assisted by tried and tested technologies that used to be 'on the wish list' but are now standard equipment. The three new excavators in the Next Generation line-up, the Cat 320 GC, 320 and 323, are designed to give machine owners more and better options to suit different sites, conditions and operating requirements.

Construction World July 2018ON THE COVER: At the African Construction & Totally Concrete Expo (TCE) in 2016, Scania South Africa partnered with bodybuilder Reimer on a joint stand, while in 2017 it partnered with Liebherr. In 2018 Scania decided to have its own stand to enable the brand to be the champion. This is symbolic of the growth of the Scania range of construction vehicles, now firmly entrenched in the South African construction world.

Construction World June 2018ON THE COVER: Leading construction materials supplier, AfriSam, designed and supplied specialised readymix for the redevelopment of the 100 year old Grain Silo which now houses the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

AfriSam has been supplying materials for the construction of various prominent buildings at the V&A Waterfront for 25 years, and its sponsorship of the concrete for the Zeitz Museum further anchors them in the Western Cape where it is the biggest supplier of readymix and aggregate and the second biggest supplier of cement.

Construction World May 2018ON THE COVER: The recent delivery of four JS305LS tracked excavators by earthmoving equipment specialist, Kemach JCB, has boosted key customer, Lusthof Civil & Plant Hire’s JCB fleet to 26 machines.

The relationship with Kemach JCB began in 2008 when Anton Schonken, founder of Lusthof Civil & Plant Hire, met JCB advisor, Gerhard Riekert and paid a visit to the JCB factory in the United Kingdom. Highly impressed by the professionalism, friendliness and efficiency of the JCB personnel, he decided to purchase his first JCB.

Kemach Equipment, known as Kemach JCB, was established in South Africa in 2003 is the country’s leading distributor of a wide range of superior, rugged and efficient earthmoving equipment to the mining, construction, quarrying and plant fire industries.

2018 april franki coverON THE COVER: Once complete, Pinnacle Towers in Nairobi, Kenya, with a height of almost 300 m, will be the tallest building in Africa. For Keller company, Franki Africa, which is in the process of doing the geotechnical work, this prestigious project has been somewhat of a milestone.

The building, in Nairobi’s Upperhill area, will cost an estimated USD194-million, and consists of two towers. The tallest will have 70 mixed-use floors and the other will be a 45-floor Hilton Hotel developed by Hass Petroleum and White Lotus Group. There will also be 200 apartments run by the Hilton Hotel that will include one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom fully furnished luxury apartments.

Construction World March 2018ON THE COVER: Ditshimega Projects and Training’s success in a difficult economic climate has been nothing less than astounding. When it was established in 2013 it had a turnover of R1,2-million. This has exploded to R250-million in 2017. Wilhelm du Plessis asked the MD, Sakkie Ranta about the company’s business model, its unique selling point and its preference for Scania vehicles in its quest to offer turnkey solutions to customers for the building of trusting relationships.
