“Increasing access to clean energy to enable industrialization and attainment of middle income status” was this year’s theme of Uganda’s Energy Week opened at Lugogo show grounds on 1st November by a speech from the Minister of State for Minerals, Peter Lokeris, delivered for him by the Commissioner for Energy James Banabe.

clean energy in uganda1Key Activities for the week included an Energy Exhibition, Energy Management Symposium, Biomass Energy Dialogue and the Launch of the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Energy Finance (SUNREF) Programme.

SUNREF involves financing renewable energy projects and energy efficiency projects at a low interest rate. The financing is by the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD).
