Rachid Ouenniche, Cummins Managing Director Distribution for Africa and the Middle East, addressed the media at an event on 1 February 2017 at Cummins Head Office in Kelvinview, Johannesburg. Rachid presented Cummins South Africa with the ‘Cummins Distributor Long Service Award’ ... the company having been strong in the country for 70 years (as of 2016).
Cummins: Phistos Katisi, Receiving Supervisor (46 years at Cummins), Thierry Pimi, Managing Director for Southern Africa; Rachid Ouenniche, Managing Director: Distribution for Africa and the Middle East; and George Lymberopoulos, Warranty Administrator (41 years at Cummins).
The business started in the country in 1946 and has expanded over the years. In 1982 the business moved to Kelvin where it is today. Cummins has a further presence in southern Africa with branches in Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Cummins South Africa is the largest distributor in Africa and one of the two largest in the consolidated Africa Middle East region.
Thierry Pimi, Managing Director for Southern Africa Distribution, credited the employees of Cummins for the company’s success over seven decades. He congratulated two employees in particular: Phistos Katisi (who boasts 46 years at Cummins) and George Lymberopoulos (who has spent a ‘mere’ 41 years with the company).
He praised the people of Cummins whom he credited for the success and extensive reach that Cummins has in this region. He said that people carry the culture of Cummins... high standards, integrity and diversity. “Over the years there have been cycles,” he said. “There have been ups and downs depending on the performance of the economy. Cummins has always survived the recessions only to emerge better than before. This happens because of the dedication of our people”.
